Allan Barr is Head of Digital and Social Media for The BIG Partnership, which industry bible PR Week ranks as the largest communications agency in the UK outside London.
Over the last 11 years, Allan has been responsible for delivering successful communications strategies for some of the world’s largest organisations.
After graduating with a Masters in Information Technology & Global Commerce, Allan started his career working within marketing and communications for a number high-growth IT companies, before moving onto roles with two of the world’s four largest professional services firms.
Following two years within PR and communications for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Allan joined rival global professional services firm KPMG in 2004 as Head of Communications for UK Regions. There he was responsible for digital media, media relations, stakeholder relations and crisis management across the firm’s UK regional network.
Since joining BIG in May 2007, Allan has had responsibility for developing and delivering successful communications strategies for a range of high profile clients, including: NHS; Clydesdale Bank; Famous Grouse, KPMG; Yorkshire Bank; Standard Life; University of Strathclyde and The Scottish Government. He now focuses his time on advising the agency’s clients from across the public and private sector on how they can adopt social media into the way they interact and communicate with their customers.
Today Allan is recognised as one of the country’s leading authorities on social media, and regularly speaks on the subject at conferences, industry events and in the press.
