- Dan Franklyn helped us see the future and think on how we will balance the books and the “Born Digital” in the future.
- Michael Porter discussed social media and the role of technology for the future of libraries and information services.
- Dave Anderson talked about the library as ”hubs” as engines of demand, kinetic places for learning, interaction, relaxation and connecting.
- We heard from Newcastle and Manchester about the vision for their new city libraries in regenerating their cities.
- We saw the launch of Edinburgh’s new Virtual Library which will take library and information services to those who might never enter our doors.
- We heard real life-changing stories of the work libraries across the UK are delivering to benefit the socially and physically excluded.
- Listened to first hand stories of the difference the new library has made to the lives and literacy of the prisoners in Saughton and their families.
- Explored how we can create a national knowledge sharing culture and how we can maximise our contribution to the Government and Council’s priorities.
- Discussed the importance and potential of libraries in the community to national education, lifelong learning and cultural standards.
- The panel session drew together everything we have heard over these 2 days and allowed us to reflect and discuss the very important future role for libraries, the balance of digital and physical resources and the major contribution to inclusion, health, literacy and employment that we can play.
